Book Binding Class with Dana Shelton

Book Binding Class with Dana Shelton.  A limited number of seats is available per class.  The beginner classes are sold out. Stay tuned for more in the future. The intermediate class will be held on Friday on May 10th.  All classes are 7pm-9pm at Eagle Eye Book Shop.

Welcome to An Introduction to Bookbinding. By the end of the class, you'll walk away with the knowledge to start the fun journey in a new creative endeavor, and the experience to know it's possible. Starting with a discussion into the many parts of a book and tools used in its creation, we'll delve into the whys and hows of the different styles of bindings. After the introduction and discussion potion, we will dive into the hands on portion where you'll bind your first book using the Japanese Stab Binding methodology. All throughout, questions are encouraged, as this class is here for you to learn.

Here's the list of tools I recommend for the intro class.

Minimum List:
1) Bone Folder
2) Bookbinding Needles (straight)
3) Medium-duty Awl
4) Starter Linen Thread  - (Embroidery Floss also works, especially if they wish to play with different colors)
6) Blank Paper for the book pages, about 20. This can be printing/copier paper. Prefer 8.5"x11"
7) Decorative Paper for the covers, 2 or more. At least 10"x15" (This can be Washi Paper, Craft Paper, Handmade Paper, Scrap Booking Pages. It should be around the thickness of printing/copier paper. Tissue paper is too thin, and Card Stock would be the thickest you'd want to work with. These are available at  Blick, Binders, & Michael's among other places. )
8) Mechanical Pencil
9) Non-Slip Metal Stick Ruler, about 12" to 18"
10) Way to take notes (notepad & pen, tablet or phone, etc.)

Optional additional items:
1) Beeswax (solid form)
2) Light-duty Awl
3) Exacto Knife & Blades or an Utility Knife with Snap-off Blade.
4) Self-Healing Cutting Mat, about 12"x12" or bigger.
5) Scissors
